‘Good Luck Jerry’ Review: How well did Janhvi Kapoor Fair in this Black Comedy Genre?

A sick mother, a young sister, and a teenage girl who is forced to take responsibility for it all. ‘Good Luck Jerry’ is a story of a migrant family from Bihar, whose earner is no longer in this world. The movie is about the survival of the family of two girls and their mother.
Directed by Siddharth Sengupta, ‘Good Luck Jerry’ has just been released on Disney+Hotstar on July 29th, 2022. Jhanvi Kapoor is playing the main character in the film. She could be seen along with actors like Mita Vashisht, Samta Sudiksha, Deepak Dobriyal, Sahil Mehta, Neeraj Sood, and Sushant Singh in the film.
A black comedy by genre, ‘Good Luck Jerry’ is a Hindi remake of Nayanthara starrer, ‘Kolamavu Kokila’.
There was a lot of potential for Jhanvi Kapoor in the film. But many of his dialogues do not seem convincing due to the forced 'Bihari' tone. There are some scenes in which Jhanvi has been quite impressive. But it is obvious that if the film is a remake, then it will be compared to the original. The character played by Nayantara in ‘Kolamavu Kokila’ came out very well on screen. On the other hand, Jhanvi's Jerry character does not come out that much in comparison. Jhanvi had famously said in an interview that the director, Siddharth Sengupta, had repeatedly asked her to practice the famous Bhojpuri song Lollipop Lagelu so that she could catch the elegance of the dialect. How effective this experiment has been, you will be the judge of that.
But if we remove the comparison, then the work that Jhanvi Kapoor has done in this film is quite different in comparison to her previous work. The supporting cast of the film is very strong, and whatever scene they are present in, that becomes entertaining in one way or another. So, if you want to watch the film, then you can look for the supporting cast.
