Emraan Hashmi and Yami Gautam’s Upcoming Film Haq Faces Legal Trouble Ahead of Release

Emraan Hashmi and Yami Gautam’s upcoming film Haq has landed in legal trouble even before its release. Shah Bano’s daughter, Siddiqua Begum, has sent a legal notice to the filmmakers demanding an immediate halt to the film’s promotion and release. The movie is reportedly based on the landmark Shah Bano case.

What’s in the Notice?

According to the legal notice, Siddiqua Begum has accused the makers of portraying the personal life of the late Shah Bano Begum without obtaining permission from her legal heirs. The notice has been sent to director Suparn Verma, producers Junglee Pictures and Baweja Studios, as well as the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).

Film Based on a Landmark Case

As per media reports, Haq is inspired by the 1985 Supreme Court case Mohammad Ahmed Khan vs. Shah Bano Begum, which dealt with women’s rights and maintenance laws. The case is regarded as a milestone in the fight to protect the rights of Muslim women in India.

About the Film

Directed by Suparn S. Verma, Haq stars Emraan Hashmi and Yami Gautam in lead roles, along with Vartika Singh, Danish Husain, Sheeba Chaddha, and Aseem Hattangadi in pivotal parts. Produced under the banner of Junglee Pictures by Vineet Jain, Vishal Gurnani, Juhi Parekh Mehta, and Harman Baweja, the film is set to release on November 7, 2025.
