South film superstar Vijay, popularly known as Thalapathy Vijay, is currently making headlines due to reports of a possible divorce from his wife Sangeeta Sornalingam. According to media reports, the couple is planning to separate after 27 years of marriage. It is being claimed that Sangeeta has accused Vijay of having an alleged relationship with another actress, along with several other issues in their marriage. According to reports, Sangeeta filed a divorce petition on 24 February at the Chengalpattu Family Court. However, neither Vijay nor Sangeeta has officially confirmed the divorce news yet. Their silence on the matter has only increased speculation among fans and media.
A report by Tamil Filmibeat claims that Vijay might have to pay around ₹250 crore as alimony to Sangeeta if the divorce proceeds. The report also states that if both parties reach a mutual understanding, the divorce petition could still be withdrawn.
Talking about Vijay’s financial status, reports suggest that his net worth is around ₹600 crore. Apart from acting in films, he earns through production ventures and brand endorsements. Vijay also owns a luxurious bungalow in Chennai worth around ₹80 crore, along with several luxury cars.
Recently, Vijay announced that he would step away from acting to focus on politics. His last film is said to be Jana Nayagan, which has reportedly faced legal complications and has not yet been released.
Reports also claim that Vijay and Sangeeta have been living separately for the past two years. In her divorce petition, Sangeeta has allegedly accused the actor of an extramarital affair and claimed that he had taken away her financial security. The next hearing in the case is scheduled for 20 April.
Interestingly, it is said that before their marriage, Sangeeta was a huge fan of Vijay. Their first meeting reportedly happened around 1990, when she visited a film set to meet him during a shoot.
