Dhurandhar has been receiving widespread praise from audiences and critics alike and is also performing strongly at the box office. With the growing buzz around the film, viewers are eager to know more about its behind-the-scenes journey. Production designer Saini S. Johare spoke about the film’s scale and the challenges involved in its shoot.

A 20-Day Construction Challenge

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter India, Johare revealed that the Lyari area of Pakistan shown in the film was recreated in Bangkok, Thailand. He said, “We had to build a six-acre set within just 20 days. Since we couldn’t take a large team from India to Bangkok, I had to collaborate with local artists. Around 500 people from Thailand worked day and night to complete the set.”

Finding the Right Location in Thailand

According to Johare, most scenes depicting Karachi’s old Lyari locality were shot in Bangkok. To add further depth to the story, another major set was built in Mumbai. He explained, “With stars of this magnitude, shooting in real locations in Mumbai was nearly impossible. We needed a very large space. We explored multiple countries, but eventually Thailand worked out because we found ample space to build such a massive set.”

Story Rooted in Political and Terror Networks

Dhurandhar highlights the nexus between Pakistani political leaders, gangsters, and terrorist networks. Set primarily in Lyari, Karachi, the film follows the story of an Indian spy who infiltrates terrorist organizations as part of a high-risk mission.

Strong Box Office Performance

The film stars Ranveer Singh alongside Arjun Rampal, Akshaye Khanna, and Sanjay Dutt. Released on December 5, Dhurandhar has collected ₹398 crore at the box office so far, as per reports at the time of writing. The film is directed by Aditya Dhar
